february

Whoever decided that February should have 28 days was an idiot (less so than the idiot who came up with daylight savings but an idiot nevertheless). Why should all the months have 30 or 31 days with the exception of February which has 28? That's inconsistent and thus stupid. Why not have more months with 30 days instead of 31 and make February have 30/31 days as well? Because someone was stupid, that's why.
Here:

scheme j f m a m j j a s o n d total days
stupid 31 28 31 30 31 30 31 31 30 31 30 31 365
stupid leap 31 29 31 30 31 30 31 31 30 31 30 31 366
fine 30 31 30 31 30 31 30 31 30 31 30 30 365
fine leap 30 31 30 31 30 31 30 31 30 31 30 31 366

There. Isn't my scheme much neater? Look how fine the months alternate. And on leap years you add one day at the end of the year, not at some arbitrary position. Much like they do with leap seconds on New Year now.

How would you say then that you are going to finish a project on 30th of February? :)

I vote for, I fully agree.

I would mention that I do not fully like that months 1-7 have different parity (more precisely the fact of being 30 or 31 days long) than in present. I understand that they alternate nicely, however in non-leap year Dec and Jan have the same number of days anyway.

I suggest making Jun and Jul same length - 30, since they have similar names too. That way changes to the current calendar would be minimal, and you would still have the same amount of alternation over several years.

Hey,

1. The guy who invented it might have been an idiot as you claim, but The Daylight saving time proved very useful starting from 1915. Remember we had WW1 and WW2 when resources were scarce? Well, DST improves effectiveness of one's arm by preserving resources - no wonder Germany was the first to adopt it.

2. Regarding the New Year, the story gets complicated: various nations had different opinions/proposals, the Church got involved too and made some modifications (remember we use Gregorian calendar now instead of Julian calendar? :D) and so on.

So, there's not just one man, but a combination of decisions (be they bad or good) and randomness! And maybe even aesthetics, who knows?
